NOSTOS LUSITANO
Paolo Scarnecchia

Time seemed to stand still on this long musical journey and I was marvelled to hear the remarkable effects that can be created by the deepest essence of sound. Exalting the lyrical nature of the Portuguese guitar, Luisa Amaro distils the melos, searching for roots both distant in time and space and close to Portuguese sentiments. Inspired by the echo of the myth resonating from the name of the Lusitanian city, Olisipo, one of the oldest cities in Europe, she ventures over to the other shore of a Hellas in which the past blends with the present. The logos of the Greek language becomes deep empathy in her world of sound, and the voice of Kyriacoula Constantinou is also to thank for this. Perhaps it is the echo of the memory of the perpetual return of nostalgia, whose Atlantic façade hides a Mediterranean soul which Luisa Amaro expresses with a moving delicacy and extraordinary sensitivity, to the point where her melodies seem polished by time, like the melodies of the oral tradition. In the play of elected affinities, the tone of the clarinet helps to strengthen the bond between the two extremities of Europe, united by a sense of ancestral destiny which draws them closer. The idea of the journey, expressed by the Homeric titles of the instrumental sections and by the verses of the vocals, from which emerge the principles of the life cycle, is reinforced by the circular musical path. It almost seems to go back to its starting point, but the journey is transformation and the homecoming, nostos, is the sign of a later nostalgia and desire to leave again.
